About Event

What this is:
Most of us carry a quiet, chronic "grip" in our bodies -- the physical remains of performing, rushing, and over-extending. Flow State is a restorative movement practice designed to help you release that bracing and experience movement as a natural flow rather than an exertion of effort.

The Experience:

Like a hand trailing through water, we can experience ourselves being moved by a gentle current.

In this class, we use very light, gentle partnering as a tool for your own discovery. You will experience embodied receptivity -- receiving subtle cues through a soft touch on the hand or upper back -- to see, how does it feel to be moved to move rather than moving from your head?

So often we initiate movement mentally. We decide how something should look, anticipate what comes next, or try to perform it correctly. In addition to "performing," many of us carry an unconscious habit of rushing -- an internal urgency to reach the next moment that keeps the body in a perpetually clenched, gripped state. When movement begins in the head, the body often follows with subtle bracing: the shoulders lift, the jaw tightens, and the breath becomes shallow. Over time, these habits can leave us feeling tense, burnt out, and disconnected from ourselves.

Here, we explore something different. What happens when movement emerges from clearing the path for life force energy rather than from exerting more effort? The ocean is moved to move; there is a reason we feel calm watching waves roll in and out. When we witness something being moved by life energy there is an effortlessness we feel -- an ease that feels like a quiet sigh of relief. This class is an invitation to feel that spaciousness in your own body.

Who is this for?
Do you feel any of the below:

  • Physically "braced" or tense from the habits of daily rushing.

  • Exhausted by the ‘mental effort’ of modern life.

  • Burnt out by the pressure to be or look a certain way.

  • Curious about how routine ‘every day’ movement can feel enlivening.

  • Fascinated by partner dance -- whether you are an absolute beginner, curious about the lead and follow, or a current dancer looking to refine your connection.

  • Drawn to the idea of being in sync with the flow of Life, learning how to feel more connected and less braced against the world.

  • Interested in what it feels like to be enlivened by a natural current, even for an hour, by stepping momentarily out of the rush.

Whether you are recovering from burnout (as I have through my own health journey) or simply want to feel more "unclenched" and alive, you are welcome exactly as you are.

How we move:
Through simple guided activities, you explore leading and responsiveness in real-time. You have full control: work on your own, partner with someone you bring, or try partnering with others only if you feel moved to. Sessions are held with clear boundaries and care for individual comfort.

We acknowledge that most of us are used to living in our heads, so this may feel unfamiliar at first. That is not a problem; in fact, it means you are in the right place.
