Fallin' for Fungi Volunteer Event with Dirt Corps and Seattle Women in Climate
SWiC is thrilled to partner with Dirt Corps for "Fallin' for Fungi," a hands-on forest restoration event at Westcrest Park! Together, we'll spend a morning learning about the hidden networks beneath our feet—the fungi that connect trees, transfer nutrients, and keep our forests thriving. Then we'll put that knowledge into action by removing invasive blackberry and other non-native weeds that threaten native plant growth and ecosystem health.
Whether you're a seasoned restoration volunteer or exploring this work for the first time, all experience levels are welcome. Dirt Corps will guide us through the process, and we'll work side-by-side to make a real impact on this beloved neighborhood green space.

What to expect:
Education on forest fungi and their ecological role, hands-on weeding and restoration work, community connection with other climate-minded folks, and refreshments to fuel the effort.
Who is invited?
This event is for those identifying as women. We occasionally have events for other friends and allies so if that is not how you identify, stay tuned for future events.
Transportation:
Bus stops for the 60 and 131 lines are within walking distance of the south lot.
Street parking is available at Westcrest Park's south parking lot.
Important Information:
Please meet at the tool chest directly west of the Westcrest Park P-patch
We'll be located outdoors. Wear closed-toed shoes and bring hats, sunscreen, shades, or raincoats as appropriate.
Tools and gloves needed for the workday will be provided. Remember that blackberry thorns are sharp and can snag clothing, and that the terrain may be uneven and/or wet.
Space is limited. If turnout is high, we may need to turn people away at the door. Please cancel your registration if you can no longer attend to free up space for someone on the waitlist.
