How generalists get hired in 2026: turn your generalist experience into your biggest hiring advantage

"I actually think studying the humanities is going to be more important than ever. A lot of these models are actually very good at STEM. But I think this idea that there are things that make us uniquely human — understanding ourselves, understanding history, understanding what makes us tick — I think that will always be really, really important." - Co Founder of Anthropic, ABC News.

Sophia Arora studied History and Politics, started her career at McKinsey, and is now Founding Growth at Jack & Jill — an AI company that's raised $20M at seed stage and is redefining how people find jobs.

In this session, she breaks down why generalist backgrounds are in demand at AI startups—and what you can do this week to find a similar job and better position and pitch yourself to founders.

What you'll walk away with

  • Why AI companies are actively hiring humanities grads, career switchers, and generalists. A lived experience / insight into the type of work generalists do at fast growing AI start ups like Jack and Jill. What roles might be applicable to you? Which ones should you go for?

  • How to break out of corporate and build a T shaped operational spike. Whether that is Investment Banking to Head of Customer Product or McKinsey Manager to Growth. Similarly — how to know when it's time to build a spike (become T-shaped), and how to choose what that spike could be?

  • How to position a generalist CV as a competitive advantage in interviews?

  • A live demo of Jack, an AI career agent that helps generalists surface opportunities in AI that you wont find on a job board or doomscrolling LinkedIn

Your host

Sophia Arora studied History & Politics at Cambridge University and spent 3 years at McKinsey advising large consumer and brand-led businesses (CPG, retail, luxury, and wholesalers) on growth, operating strategy and cost transformations. She then moved to New York to pursue a spiked interest in consumer, joining Oddity Tech, one of the USA’s fastest growing beauty companies (added more revenue than any other US beauty brand in 2024, backed by LVMH before listing on the NASDAQ within 5 years of founding). She joined a New Venture team - working across product development and 0-1 operations of a new business line in telemedicine.

She is now Founding Growth at Jack & Jill an AI career agent backed by Creandum ($20M seed stage funding). One of London’s most talked about and fastest growing AI start ups. She leads consumer marketing.

Attendees can talk to Jack at jackandjill.ai for career coaching, salary benchmarking, and job matching — no cost, no catch.
