​Conviction Presents: For the Sun After Long Nights — A Book Talk with Fatemeh Jamalpour & Nilo Tabrizy, moderated by Sahar Delijani

​Join us at Collective Z for an evening with Fatemeh Jamalpour and Nilo Tabrizy, authors of For the Sun After Long Nights: The Story of Iran's Women-Led Uprising (Pantheon) — longlisted for the National Book Award. The talk takes place inside Conviction, Haleh Atabeigi's exhibition of paintings for the women held in Iran's political prisons.

​Fatemeh Jamalpour reported from the streets of Tehran through the Woman, Life, Freedom uprising that followed the 2022 killing of Mahsa Jina Amini — enduring repeated interrogations and the threat of years in prison for her work before going into exile. Nilo Tabrizy covered the movement from the United States. Together they braid their two vantage points — one on the ground, one in the diaspora — into a first-person account of the largest protests Iran has seen in decades. The women they write about are the same women on these walls: among them Nobel laureate Narges Mohammadi and journalists Niloufar Hamedi and Elaheh Mohammadi, imprisoned in Evin for reporting Amini's death.

​They will be joined in conversation by moderator Sahar Delijani, the Iranian-American novelist of Children of the Jacaranda Tree. Delijani was born inside Tehran's Evin prison, where her parents were held as political prisoners, and her fiction traces the long afterlife of that imprisonment — few writers are better placed to draw out what this uprising, and this exhibition, ask us to remember.

​The evening will include a reading and conversation followed by audience questions, with the exhibition open to walk before and after. Copies of the book will be available and signed free of charge, and wine will be served.
