About Event

📅 Tuesday, August 19th | 🕙 10:30 AM ET - 11:30 AM ET

Curious about what's emerging at the intersection of DAOs, digital governance, and organizational behavior?

Join us for DAOstar's Community Calls, where builders, researchers, and academics share ideas, questions, and prototypes from the frontlines of DAO innovation. Topics span computational social science, online coordination, political theory, and more. You might hear a new standard, a governance experiment, a work-in-progress paper, or a live demo.

These are informal and open sessions designed for collaborative learning. We begin with introductions and open space time where participants can share what they want to learn or contribute. Following that, we'll have the main presentation and end off with a community Q&A.

Want to share your work too? Apply to be a presenter here.

🔧 Today's Sharing: The Social Dynamics of DAOs

Victoria Kozlova and Ben Biedermann will be presenting findings from their recent ethnographic study "Social Dynamics of DAOs: Power, Onboarding, and Inclusivity." Drawing on qualitative interviews and observations from within the DAO ecosystem, they explore the often-overlooked cultural and social dynamics that shape participation and power in DAOs.

Their research reveals how factors like financial privilege, informal gatekeeping, visibility bias, and onboarding structures create barriers to meaningful inclusion—even in spaces that are formally "permissionless" and egalitarian. Rather than offering quick fixes, their work invites deeper cultural reflection within the DAO ecosystem, highlighting that decentralization is not just a protocol-level feature, but an ongoing social process.

Victoria is a multimedia designer and interdisciplinary researcher focused on sociolinguistics, feminisms, and user experience. Ben is pursuing a PhD at the University of Malta and serves as Resident Protocol Product Lead at Nouns Builder. Together, they co-founded acurraent and are both DAOstar research fellows working to sharpen collective awareness of structural blind spots in decentralized systems.

👥 About DAOstar

DAOstar is the standards body of the DAO ecosystem. We build interoperable protocols, support research, and develop public goods for DAOs. DAOstar is a nonprofit project hosted by Metagov, a lab for digital governance. Our team and collaborators include alumni of the DAO Science project and the Cryptoeconomics Systems Journal.
