Some problems are not solved by policy.
They are solved by organisations built to move fast and act.
This International Women’s Day, we’re spotlighting women leading exactly that work across business, charity and impact-led ventures.
🎤 In Conversation with Mia Klitsas
Co-founder & Director, Moxie Period Care
At 22, Mia Klitsas launched Moxie Period Care with a laptop and $5,000 in savings.
Within a year, she secured national distribution in Woolworths, followed by Coles, taking on multinational incumbents and building a brand that challenged stigma in women’s health.
Twenty years in, she has led Moxie through growth, downturns and reinvention. Today she drives brand, storytelling and community, building an organic TikTok audience of more than 1.4 million.
Her work has been recognised through Telstra Young Businesswoman of the Year (Victoria) and AFR and Westpac 100 Women of Influence.
Alongside building a national brand, Moxie has used its success to support social change.
In 2013, Mia helped fund reusable menstrual kits for schoolgirls in Uganda. More than 15,000 girls were supported through programs linked to organisations like Marie Stopes International. No added cost passed on. Just using business as a vehicle for change.
It is a clear example of Rights. Justice. Action in practice and something startups can learn from.
🔎 Panel: Women Building What Matters
Following our conversation with Mia, we will be joined by two purpose-led leaders tackling real social inequities.
Danielle Schutte is COO at Mobilise, an organisation on a mission to prove homelessness is solvable in Australia. With a background in management consulting across health, ageing and human services, she now applies startup approaches to one of society’s biggest challenges, overseeing programs that are first of their kind in Australia.
Jen Shaw is COO at Alex Makes Meals, tackling food insecurity across Victoria. With a background as a chef and social impact operator, she has built her career working across organisations using food to drive equity, opportunity and community outcomes.
This panel will spotlight women leading organisations creating real change aligned with Rights. Justice. Action. For ALL Women & Girls.
