Building Agents Meetup: Memory is the Moat (New York)
Join us for an evening in New York with Sydney Runkle from the OSS team at LangChain.
Memory is what makes an agent get better with every interaction. This talk covers how to build memory-first agents with Deep Agents: an open harness with open memory standards that lets you bring your own storage and own your data.
In this talk, Sydney will walk through the memory layer from first principles — why filesystem-backed memory gives you flexibility without lock-in, and why that matters as agents move to production. We'll cover how to:
Load and update memories during and between conversations
Scope memory for multi-user and multi-agent deployments
Use background consolidation to improve memory quality without adding latency
Design retrieval strategies that keep context lean
Own your memory layer with open standards
