A Secondary School Homework Pivot
Homework is broken. How can it be saved in the age of AI?
Let's be completely honest: Standard Secondary School homework is no longer working. If a student can copy-paste an essay prompt into a chatbot and generate a flawless response in 10 seconds, we aren't assessing their actual learning, we are just assessing their ability to use AI. Teachers are losing sleep over homework cheating.
To fix this, I am running a free, high-impact, 30-minute online masterclass (plus Q & A) for secondary educators: A Secondary School Homework Pivot. This is the first of a series of free online AI workshops for teachers.
The session will cover:
What homework typically looks like in Australian secondary schools today, and why it is fundamentally unsuitable for the current AI landscape.
Why should we change? What is the cost of doing nothing? Crucial data and important parallels from the education and sporting worlds are drawn upon to emphasise the ethical stakes, the risk of grey areas, and why we must change urgently.
Can a broken system be fixed? Here I provide teachers with a range of ideas, resources, and prompts to help them produce AI-safe and AI-assisted homework that protects their subject's academic integrity and helps students improve their ability to collaborate with machines – whilst deepening their subject understanding.
Can't make it live at 7:30 PM? Register anyway, and my team will email you the full replay and workshop resources.
