Demystifying the New Weather Models: What They Are and How Industry Uses Them to be More Resilient

​Weather affects almost every operational decision across most industries, from when to work on site to how to plan maintenance, manage demand, assess risk or manage supply chain vulnerabilities. The range of weather models, data sources and forecasting methods available to support those decisions has never been broader, and it is evolving fast.

​This two-hour early evening session at the Geovation hub brings the landscape into focus. A keynote from a leading meteorologist will set the scene, covering the main approaches in use today, from physical numerical weather prediction and ensemble systems to the new generation of AI-based models, and the observational data that underpins them, including satellite, radar, drone and ground-based sources. A panel of practitioners from across industry will then share how they put these models and data to work, what has changed in their own decision-making, what they have learned along the way, and how forecasts for weather-related incidents has become a key part of supply chain resilience.

​With winter approaching in an El Niño year, it is a timely moment to take stock, compare notes and hear how others are preparing.
