The Secret Ingredient Writer’s Salon: Taste (+ Series Option)
Five senses. Five sessions. One story only you can tell.
When a writer omits themselves from the page, the work loses its meaning. Over five weeks, we'll use taste, smell, sound, sight, and touch as entry points — each one a path back into the moments, memories, and truths that make your writing yours.
The Secret Ingredient Writer's Salon is for essayists and memoirists ready to let themselves back into their own story.
Come for one session, join us for all five, or drop in as your schedule allows. Each evening offers a distinct sensory entry point into your writing, and those who register for the full series receive a complimentary one-on-one coaching session.
SESSION 1: TASTE
We begin where we are: with food in front of us.
Taste is memory's shortcut, and can transport you to another time and place. For me it's the zing of chili pepper that brings me back to a wooden house in Bhutan's Haa Valley tasting ema datshi for the first time.
I find that one sense can heighten the others, making the memory multidimensional. Taste can evoke comfort or anticipation, curiosity or delight. For others, it may stir longing, discomfort, nostalgia, even repulsion. The things we savor, or vehemently reject, each have a story to tell.
Tonight, we'll give them a voice, writing our way through taste and what it brings to mind.
