Beyond the Firewall: A Talk on State-Sponsored Hacking
Join Noah Landow (Founder and CEO at Macktez) and Ciprian Iancu (formerly of New America's Open Internet Tools Project) for a crucial conversation about the global fight for a free and open internet.
Ciprian has worked at the forefront of the internet freedom movement as a Program Officer for the Open Internet Tools Project at the think tank New America. His work focused on supporting the development and deployment of circumvention technologies that allow individuals to bypass censorship and surveillance. Known for his deep understanding of the intersection of technology, policy, and human rights, Ciprian has helped empower journalists, activists, and citizens in some of the world's most restrictive digital environments. He'll offer a rare, on-the-ground perspective of the high-stakes battle for digital freedom.
Join us at the Macktez office, after work, over light snacks and sips, for an exploratory conversation that peels back the curtain on the technologies and strategies essential for keeping information free. We'll move from the fundamentals of circumvention tools like VPNs and Tor to the strategic cat-and-mouse game played between developers and authoritarian regimes. This discussion will highlight the profound impact these tools have on real-world human rights movements and why the global struggle for a free internet is essential for democracy everywhere.

A bit about Macktez, and why we host this series
Macktez is a technology consultancy collaborating with organizations going through dynamic change.
Our goal is to form a lasting partnership between our team and our clients, so we can anticipate their technology challenges and help them navigate growth, disruption, and other evolving conditions.
Each event in our Tête-à-Tech series is an opportunity to explore a specific cultural, scientific, historical, and personal issue. We fire at the synapses that connect each topic to other fields of interest and to our individual lives. And we do so in a comfortable environment to facilitate conversation that can be casual, surprising, and illuminating.
