About Event

Join South Bay Paper Trail for our fiction writing workshop! Our mission for our workshops is to foster a South Bay writers’ community through sustainable workshops and professional development. Whether you're a hobbyist looking for a creative writing group or an aspiring pro, our workshops support your creative fulfillment through specialized craft talks and guided exercises.

We are excited to introduce our host for this writing workshop, Yimin (Tori) Huang - published author and MFA.

By South Bay Spaces.

The Curated Writing Workshop

Tori will be exploring the art of writing stories in different points of view - first, second, and third person, limited or omniscient! We will be exploring the different narrations through examples, discussion, and writing prompts to start your own story. By the end of the workshop, you will also discover the hidden strengths of the uncommon 2nd person “you” POV.

Everyone will be given the opportunity share what they wrote to the group at the end of the freewriting time. Tori will also provide concise feedback for each one.

No writing experience required! Come meet new people and unearth your writing talent. Create and walk away with the start of your own story with Tori's expertise!

You will also be able to purchase Tori's powerful poetry book, Estrangement, on-site at a 10% discount. The book delves into various forms of estrangement from politics, familial, and societal expectations.

Learning Objectives for this Workshop

  1. Identify Narrative Perspectives: Recognize first, second, and third-person (omniscient vs. limited) viewpoints through excerpts from famous short stories.

  2. Differentiate Narrators from Writers: Understand the similarities and differences between a character voice, a narrator voice, and the personal voice of a (fictional) writer.

  3. Analyze the Impact of POV: Evaluate how a chosen POV influences the revelation of character motivations and emotions.

  4. Apply POV in Practice: Demonstrate the ability to write a character from multiple POVs.
