Wanakam Movie Nights - PETTAH with Live Director Q&A
We are incredibly excited to announce a very special guest for our fifth movie night: filmmaker Sulochana Pieris will be live in the space to introduce her documentary, Pettah, and lead an intimate post-movie discussion and Q&A!
Pettah (110 mins) is a brilliant, essential slice of Sri Lankan real-world history. Moving past political and ethnic divisions, the film looks at how diverse communities—including Tamils, Sinhala, Muslims, Burghers, and minority groups of Indian origin—have built thriving businesses and sustained deep inter-communal ties through generations of cooperation and shared resilience in Colombo's busiest marketplace.
The Plan
Doors: Open all day (Drop in early to unwind in the café)
19:30: Live Director Intro followed by the film
Post-Film: Q&A and community conversation with Sulochana Pieris
Dinner & Late Arrivals
We are doing something special to match the vibe of the film we will be serving delicious Sri Lankan Kothu and Vadei.
If you have a dinner ticket, we can serve your meal whenever you are ready before 19:20. To keep the space quiet once the screening starts, anyone arriving after 19:20 will be served their meal during the film’s interval.
Come, grab a bowl, and let's enjoy the movie and chat together!
With warmth,
The Wanakam Team
