Berlin Mandarin Queer Reading Club returns!
For our first event of 2026, we invite you to rethink the image of “queer Berlin” and its relationship to our own lived experiences.
This session will take Christopher Isherwood’s Goodbye to Berlin and its adaptation, Cabaret, as a starting point to discuss how literature, theatre, and history shape people’s imagination of Berlin and its queer culture. We will briefly introduce the works and explore topics including queer identity, performance, and stereotypes surrounding queer Berlin. We also invite you to share other queer literature, films, or cultural works related to Berlin.
📖 Pre-work (optional): We recommend reading Goodbye to Berlin or watching the Cabaret film/musical recording beforehand. No preparation is required, though — we will also give a brief introduction to the works during the event.
📍 Time: Sunday,June 7, 11:00 AM
The event will last approximately 2 hours.
📍 Location: Tiergarten
This is an open-air discussion event. Feel free to bring a picnic blanket (optional), and you are also welcome to bring snacks or food to share with others.
