Introduction to the universe of BEAUTIFUL TROUBLE: Creative Action for the Win
How can we bring more joy and creativity to activism for climate justice in Switzerland?
To find fresh inspiration, rediscover the joy of creativity and refine our strategies, OK Klima warmly invites you to a special workshop.
Two amazing facilitators from Beautiful Trouble will guide us through some of their tools for creative activism and civil disobedience. You can either participate online or in-person in Bern, Lausanne, Zurich or Basel and meet like-minded people.
As a topic we can work on the June 14th vote or any topic you may choose. Let's find joy in sending a strong message in support of an open and feminist society and climate justice.
What to expect:
An insight into the “Beautiful Trouble” toolkit for creative actions.
An interactive card game called “Design an Action”, in which we will jointly develop concrete scenarios for 14 June.
The application of a strategic method (e.g. “Spectrum of Allies” or “Points of Intervention”) to maximise the impact of our actions.
This online workshop is an introduction and the start of our aim to build a joyful activism network. For anyone who would like to explore the topic in greater depth, we are planning a training for trainers with Beautiful Trouble in September.
Who will lead the session?
NADINE BLOCH is an outside-the-box activist artist, political community organizer, strategic nonviolent actionista and the Training Director for Beautiful Trouble. Her work explores the potent intersection of art and politics, where creative cultural resistance is not only effective political action, but also a powerful way to reclaim agency over our own lives, fight oppressive systems, and invest in our communities — all while having more fun than the other side! In addition to contributing content to Beautiful Trouble, Beautiful Rising, and We Are Many: Reflections on Movement Strategy from Occupation to Liberation (2012, AK Press), she is the author of Education & Training in Nonviolent Resistance (2016, USIP) and the co-author of SNAP: An Action Guide to Synergizing Nonviolent Action and Peacebuilding (2019, USIP.) Find more of her writing on arts & activism at WagingNonviolence.org.
ISABELLE FREMEAUX is an educator and action researcher. She was formerly Senior Lecturer in Media and Cultural Studies at Birkbeck College London. In addition to contributing content to Beautiful Trouble, she is co-author of We are 'Nature' defending itself.
