AI at Scale: Building Intelligence on African Data, Talent and Infrastructure

​Join the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy for the Artificial Intelligence Session of Nigeria at Scale, on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York.

​Artificial intelligence is reshaping how economies create, deliver and scale value. For Africa, the opportunity to participate in this transformation depends not only on access to AI technologies, but also on the availability of African data, talent and infrastructure that can support inclusive and locally relevant AI systems.

​This session brings together policymakers, AI practitioners, technology companies and industry leaders to explore Nigeria’s journey from AI strategy to implementation, and what it will take to build AI systems that reflect the realities and needs of African populations.

​The session opens with a fireside conversation with the Honourable Minister, Dr 'Bosun Tijani, on Nigeria’s AI Journey: From Strategy to Scale.

​A panel of AI leaders from Nigeria, Africa and the global technology ecosystem will then examine Building Inclusive AI: LLMs and African Data Sets, exploring the role of African data in developing more inclusive AI systems and the opportunities and challenges surrounding large language models.

​The programme also features an AI Showcase of ATLAS-UMOJA, followed by an impact spotlight from the National Data Protection Commission on Data Protection in the Age of AI, bringing questions of innovation, data and responsible AI into the conversation.
