M. Ibnur Rashad, Chief Foresight Officer, GUILD Asia
Trained as an engineer scientist, technopreneur and futurist in National University of Singapore (NUS), Stanford University and Institute For The Future (IFTF), Ibnur believes that we build more thriving and secure futures when we bridge the wisdom of Nature, Tech and Community to solve the world's greatest challenges, through invention and education.
Ibnur published his first scientific paper on his laser interferometer invention at the age of 16. While in the University Scholars Programme, his team was recognised twice by UNESCO for inventing solutions to fight hunger, food waste and disease in the villages of India. He later studied healthcare policy and innovation at LKYSPP. In government, he conducted research in the sustainability department at HDB working on solar panels, vertical gardening and rainwater harvesting, and the innovation department at MHA developing frameworks to finance innovation for Singapore's safety and security. Having worked in a fintech startup in Silicon Valley, he sparked the growth of the maker movement when he returned to Singapore and built Southeast Asia's first makerspace which evolved into GUILD Asia. During COVID after doing innovation in ST Logistics, he was headhunted as part of a national effort to upskill retrenched adult engineers for the Robotics and Automation sector.
Ibnur now serves as the Chief Foresight Officer for GUILD Asia, a growing collective of futurists, professionals and inventors advancing the Sustainability and Inclusion sectors. Since 2016, GUILD has been working closely with the Science Centre, schools, universities, banks, foundations and corporations around Asia to bring STEAM to our next generation of innovators and roboticists through R&D mentorships such as the Young Sustainability Champions, My Digital Bootcamp and Youth STEM Empowerment Programmes, with an on-site impact footprint in all 10 ASEAN countries and a digital curriculum footprint across over 55 countries. His inventions such as the Solar Pond fruit dryer, iBam bamboo speaker and Floating Chinampa farms have won awards in China, India and Singapore, and the 3P partnership between residents in Southwest CDC, NUS and L'Oreal was featured in BBC.
