Company Narrative: The Story Behind the Science
For technical founders, having strong science, technology, or data isn’t always enough.
You can know your product inside and out, have a solid pitch deck, and still walk away from a conversation wondering whether the story actually landed.
Company Narrative: Story Beyond the Science is a hands-on, 90-minute workshop designed to help founders build a clearer, more memorable story around what they’re creating—and why it matters.
Led by Mark Rice, CEO + Founder of Rice Revenue, the workshop will introduce a five-part narrative architecture that helps turn a technical founder’s pitch into a story that customers, partners, investors, and others can understand, remember, and repeat.
What We’ll Cover
Participants will work through five core elements of a strong company narrative:
Problem — What is happening that matters?
Why Now — Why does this need to be solved today?
Your Insight — What do you understand that others may be missing?
Future State — What becomes possible if you succeed?
Why You — Why are you uniquely positioned to make it happen?
We’ll also explore:
Why the throughline—not the volume of data—is what makes a story survive questioning
How to use your origin story as a credibility engine, rather than simply a personal anecdote
How to build one narrative spine that works at multiple lengths, from 30 seconds to two minutes to a full 10-minute conversation
Who This Is For
This workshop is best suited for founders who already have a pitch deck or a reasonably clear understanding of their company, but know the story isn’t landing the way they want it to.
It may be especially useful for founders working in technical, scientific, hardtech, life sciences, or other complex fields where explaining what you do can sometimes get in the way of communicating why it matters.
What You’ll Leave With
This is a working session, not just a presentation.
By the end of the workshop, participants will have a rough first draft of their five-part company narrative, with an opportunity to stress-test it live with the room and begin refining the story they use across pitches, customer conversations, partnerships, and other opportunities.
Come with your existing pitch. Leave with a stronger story underneath it.
