About Event

About Lynn Riley - she is the Lead Scientist for the American Forest Foundation (AFF). She is responsible for the scientific quality, methodological underpinning, innovation of AFF’s forest management and reforestation practices, credit calculations, and scientific claims. She works with standards bodies, academics, fellow project developers, and teammates to communicate about, test, and advance high-integrity CO2 removal and emission reduction methods, standards, and tools in ways that work for the planet and for landowners from all walks of life.

Regarding the focus of her paper:

Carbon credits that omit biophysical effects like albedo may overestimate climate mitigation. This analysis finds some carbon market reforestation projects in diverse locations that may result in net warming due to albedo, while others—particularly in tropical and subtropical biomes—enhance cooling. Albedo is a readily addressable factor in carbon accounting due to recent data advances, and represents an opportunity to continue to mature carbon markets toward higher integrity accounting that ensures climate funding flows to the people, places, and projects making the greatest impact.
