About Event

with Noe Zavala, Mime Artist

Buddhism emphasizes living in the moment, and mime artists achieve this state by entirely focusing on their bodies and movements. They wordlessly convey emotions and stories through gestures and expressions, requiring them to be fully present in each instant. Imagine a mime artist portraying a gardener meticulously tending to their flowers. Their focus and deliberate movements mirror the Buddhist practitioner carefully arranging a rock garden, both fully immersed in the present activity.

In this workshop you will learn:

  • To be present in your body through centering and breathing techniques.

  • To control each part of the body, through articulation and isolation, using inclinations and rotations.

  • Movement techniques that create constructions in space, including imaginary objects, to tell a story clearly, simply, and well.

  • How to build multiple and physically differentiated characters.

This event is a fundraiser for the SF Dharma Collective. It is a paid events - scholarships are available by request.

Everyone is welcome. You do not need to physically participate. Enjoy the stories and the meditation that will be offered.

Mime is not easy, but I have found a teaching method that builds a great foundation for personal growth by thinking of the body in space and in relation to the audience when telling a story. This is what my teacher and friend Marcel Marceau taught me and why I pass on what I know to those who are curious about the art of mime: For them to discover their own way of telling theIr stories.
