GeeksTap with Addison Shelton: Is AI turning Investors from Software to Hardware?

What if AI makes software less scarce, and hardware more valuable?

Addison Shelton has spent 12 years as CEO of Kickr Design, an Atlanta engineering firm that takes products from sketch to production for the CDC, Delta, Chick-fil-A, Kimberly-Clark, and Newell. Before Kickr, he worked on display products at Apple and was a founding process engineer at Sila Nanotechnologies. He now also runs Kickr Labs, an 8,000-square-foot hardware-focused product realization lab.

His thesis is provocative: engineering value may be about to invert.

As AI makes software faster to build, Addison thinks the complexity embedded in physical products could become a much more valuable moat.

And then there’s Physical AI. Forget the humanoid for a moment. What if the real opportunity is in machines built to do one thing exceptionally well?

We’ll get into hardware defensibility, AI-assisted product design, robotics, industrial automation, and what all of this could mean for builders and investors.

If AI changes what’s scarce, where should you be looking next?

Watch Live

Not a GeeksTap member? You’re still welcome to watch.

The featured conversation is available via livestream on the link above. But the Tap Rooms are still members only (and IMHO that’s where the good stuff).

If you want more than the livestream, and the full GeeksTap experience explore our Memberships:

About GeeksTap

Who’s in the room?

  • Builders: Founders actively building, running, and scaling companies.

  • Backers: Experienced operators and investors putting their own capital to work.

A Curated Community

We’re deliberate about who gets into the room.

The Magic Ratio: 2 Backers : 1 Builder

For every two Backers who join, one Builder comes off our waitlist. This keeps the room balanced, and gives us the luxury of being highly selective about the Builders we bring in.

Every Tapper is personally interviewed and vetted before joining.

The result is a community built around quality, not quantity, where the people you meet aren’t a waste of your time.

What happens on The Tap?

Featured Guest
A candid conversation with someone doing interesting work across technology, investing, and entrepreneurship.

Tap Rooms
Members stay on for small-group conversations where the discussion continues and the real networking begins.

The difference?

You can watch the conversation.  Members get to be a part of it and connect with the rest of the members in small groups.
