About Event

How do writers maintain a practice amidst all the demands of our current moment? How can we break isolation and draw upon community to generate new work?

Join Anew and Community-Word Project (CWP) on October 22nd for a Matrix Generative Salon. We will begin by examining a published text for the spark it offers: a charged image, an arresting line, a bold formal move. From that piece, we will extract prompts and build a collaborative Matrix—a creative framework to help us take risks and use language in new ways. Once the Matrix is set, we write. There will be time for everyone who would like to share their draft work in a supportive space.

Lead by CWP’s founder Michele Kotler and Anew Co-Founder Katie Manderfield; this workshop is open to everyone, you don’t need to be a writer to participate.

Anew is a gathering space and discovery center for social transformation located in NYC. We host interactive events and workshops, an accelerator program for nonprofits, and a retail lab featuring ethically-sourced coffee and gifts.

Michele Kotler is a poet living in New York City, the city that birthed and raised her. She received her MFA in creative writing poetry from the University of Michigan after receiving her BA in creative writing from Sarah Lawrence College. She is the founding director of the Community-Word Project, a teaching artist training and artist in the schools organization. Her poetry has appeared in American Poetry Review, Washington Square Review, Spinning Jenny, Painted Bride Quarterly and SWWIM Everyday.
