Brussels AI Safety Meetup - Europe and the Geopolitics of AGI
Join us on Monday, 23 February at 18:00 at Commons Hub Brussels for an evening exploring the strategic implications of AGI for Europe's future.
🌍 Europe and the Geopolitics of AGI: The Need for a Preparedness Plan
A new report from CFG, RAND Europe, MIT, University of Oxford, Max Planck Institutes, and the ELLIS Institute argues that AI systems matching or exceeding humans at most cognitive work could plausibly arrive between 2030 and 2040. If that's right, the implications for Europe's economy, security, and global influence are enormous. Yet the report finds that Europe lacks the strategic awareness, competitive positioning, and integrated policy strategies to navigate what may be the most consequential technological transition in history. It calls for an AGI Preparedness Report on the scale and urgency of the Draghi Report.
To help us unpack the report's findings and what they mean for Europe, we'll hear from two of the authors:
Daan Juijn - Senior Advanced AI Researcher at the Centre for Future Generations (CFG)
Maximilian Negele - Senior Analyst at RAND Europe
After the presentation and Q&A, we'll have drinks and informal networking to continue the discussion.
Please RSVP as space is limited. Looking forward to seeing you!
This event is presented by BlueDot Impact, a nonprofit dedicated to advancing AI safety by training and connecting talented people to work on technical, policy, and societal challenges. Since 2021, BlueDot has trained over 5,000 people worldwide, with 1000 already working in high impact roles at places such as Anthropic, Google DeepMind, and the UK’s AI Security Institute.
We are delighted to be hosted at Commons Hub Brussels, a citizen-led community centre at the heart of Brussels.
