Alter Magazine #7 Launch
About Alter:
Alter Magazine is a monthly journal bringing to the world new literary writing on Science, Technology, and Progress, from South Asia.
With every story, we aim to alter our readers’ views and perceptions, bringing them contemporary geniuses, cutting-edge ideas, and pathbreaking discoveries. This is a living journal documenting the dreams and dilemmas shaping South Asia’s aspirations for progress.
About Sthala:
Sthala is a community space in Bengaluru housed within a 120-year-old matha, a traditional Hindu monastery and centre for spiritual learning. It brings together people and ideas across conservation, culture and creativity.
About the event:
A tiger has gone missing. The records don’t add up. Somewhere between pugmarks, camera-trap photographs and suspicious leads lies the truth. What happened to the tiger, and who knows more than they’re letting on?
For Alter Issue #7, we’re turning the launch into a live investigation. Follow the evidence, examine the clues, question the accounts, and work with fellow attendees to piece together what happened. You’ll also meet people working in tiger conservation and get a closer look at the methods used to track and count India’s tigers.
The event accompanies Sonakshi Srivastava’s story on how India learned to count tigers, from tracing pugmarks to using camera traps and AI, and what those numbers can, and cannot, tell us.
Join us on 31 October at 3 PM at Sthala, Bengaluru. We have only 50 seats.
