Studying Human Minds To Build Safer Machines
Collider and the Institute for Humane Robotics are hosting an evening for New Yorkers working on AI safety from the study of human minds. Cognitive science, neuroscience, and psychology all have a lot to say about how these systems fail and how people relate to them, and this room is for the researchers, students, and builders bringing that training to the problem.
Roshni Lulla, co-founder of IHR, will open with a short talk on empathy, dark triad personality traits, and what happens when these antisocial behaviors emerge in language models or embodied systems. Companion and care robots already live in homes, schools, and nursing homes across Japan, and the people who study attachment and development are well placed to ask what that means for the humans in the room.
