Climate Arcade: Gamified Simulations for Pro Climate Behaviours

​What if a game could do what a campaign poster can't?

​The success of climate technology and policy lies in civic acceptance and participation.  However, most climate conversations stay technical, data-heavy and jargon-laden, alienating the very communities whose behaviour needs to shift.

​This hands-on workshop, organised by Transitions Research in collaboration with the London School of Economics and Political Science, starts from a simple idea: games aren't an add-on to behaviour-change work, they're a method for it. They turn abstract climate decisions into personal, participatory experiences — low-stakes spaces where people push back, say what they actually need, and where practitioners discover what they didn't know to ask.

​Drawing on a card-based simulation Transitions Research piloted at Mumbai Climate Week 2026, we'll move from playing to building: get your hands on real games, wrestle with entrenched climate-behaviour challenges from the Global South, and leave with ideas, collaborators, and gamified prototypes for your own work.

​This session is for policymakers, researchers, funders and philanthropic organisations, civic groups, behavioural science practitioners, game designers and communications professionals — anyone designing climate programmes or working in behaviour change and communications.
