​Toronto is full of people building incredible things. This is an evening at the office of one of them: Starboard, a Toronto team building AI agents for logistics, one of the oldest, messiest, and most consequential industries there is.

​The question for discussion: how do you hire engineers when AI writes most of the code? Take-home tests and whiteboard problems were built for a world where writing the code was the hard part. What do you actually test for now, and how do you tell the difference between someone who can ship and someone who can prompt?

​Dave Y. Kim was co-founder and CTO of Agentnoon (YC 2022) and, after Dayforce acquired it in 2025, now leads there as VP of Development, hiring at enterprise scale. James Lowman leads engineering at Starboard, where every hire changes the team. They'll compare what's working, what they've changed, and what it takes to build a team that ships agents into production when the stakes are real cargo and real money.
