Satori Book Club Vol. 3: Stop Bowling Alone
A chill book club for ambitious people who want to read interesting books, have better conversations, and make life a little more interesting.
Welcome to Satori Book Club: Vol. 3.
We’ll spend the afternoon hanging out in the park or a home or somewhere cool, geeking out on interesting ideas, sharing spicy takes, debating the things we disagree on, and inevitably going down a few completely unnecessary rabbit holes along the way.
📚 What we're reading
Main Book
Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke
A modern-day "tradwife" influencer romanticizes the old-school pioneer lifestyle... and then wakes up in 1855 and has to actually live it. Turns out the good old days may not have been all that good.
⚔️ Biz / Professional Development Side Quest
The Science of Storytelling by Will Storr
Because storytelling is one of the oldest and most important skills, and we decided we're tired of people blowing good stories with bad storytelling skills. This one digs into the psychology of why stories grip us and how to tell better ones.
🧠 Personal / Philosophy Side Quest
Bowling Alone by Robert D. Putnam
Because seriously, we've got to stop bowling alone. Or reading alone. Or doing anything alone. Haven't you heard the memo? Community building is cool again. The classic on why Americans stopped joining things and what it's cost us.
Quick reminder: You really don’t have to read the books — read one, read them all, read half, or come in completely blind. The books are really just fuel for interesting ideas, deep conversations, spicy takes, and random rabbit holes. No pressure, no homework vibes.
We started this thing so we could geek out on deep ideas, philosophy, and life’s big questions together instead of having all those conversations in our own heads. 🧠
TBD on where we meet for this next one
A rough idea of the afternoon:
👋 Hang out and catch up
📚 Break into groups around the different books and discussion prompts
🌶️ Share insights, hot takes, disagreements, and whatever rabbit holes we find ourselves in
🗳️ Nominate + vote on what we read next
Every ~6 weeks we’ll pick some new books, get together to talk about them, and sprinkle in casual reading hangs and other shenanigans in between.
If you like interesting people, interesting ideas, and conversations that go a little deeper than “so, what do you do?” — come hang. 📚🤙
