Confidence with Congress: Advocacy 101
Sustainable Ocean Alliance DMV Hub is hosting an advocacy 101 training to help ocean stewards build their "Confidence with Congress." If you are new to the Hill or need a refresher on congressional visits, this training is for you! We will present an overview on how to conduct legislative research, teach you how to schedule meetings with congressional members, and empower you to be an ocean champion during your visit!
We will conclude with an expert panel featuring seasoned Hill advocates who will share practical tips from their experiences. Panelists will be: (1) Mark Haver, Chief Executive Officer of BlueGreen Generation, (2) Maya Heller, 2024-2025 Marine Plastics Ambassador for EarthEcho International, and (3) Sophie Mangassarian, Program Manager of Science Policy and Government Relations for the American Geophysical Union (AGU). Views expressed will be their own and do not reflect the official stances of BlueGreen Generation, Earth Echo International, or AGU.
This training is the first of a two-part series that will conclude with a "Workshop Your Ask" training in May. The target audience for the May training will be for attendees planning to engage with Congress during Capitol Hill Ocean Week.
