About Event

Map The Room is an Asian food dinner social that playfully reveals who’s around the table. 🍽️🗺️

What if a room of strangers already had a little context before they started talking? And what if meeting people could feel like a game?

Summary

Join us this winter for a night of hearty food, shared tea 🍵, dataviz 📊, games, and puzzles 🧩, all shaped by the collective answers from a pre-dinner questionnaire.

(What are data visualizations? Think colourful charts, maps that turn the room’s answers into things you can see. The visuals are interpretive and playful — they’re meant to spark curiosity and conversation, not measure anything precisely. )

Come hungry and curious: discovering patterns, overlaps, and the range of interests in the room is where the fun begins. Across the lightly structured evening, we’ll eat, explore the visuals, and play a couple rounds of creative activities. You’ll leave with a clearer sense of who was in the room and a few threads to follow. 🧵

Note: This is a queer-affirming, inclusive space.

Is this event for you?

  • You believe sharing and talking food is a love language. 🥟❤️

  • You tend to meet one small pocket at socials and you want a better sense of who else is in the room.

  • You don’t love starting conversations with the same “so what do you do?” script all night.

  • You’re intrigued about seeing patterns, overlaps in a visual way.

  • You’re game for creative prompts and light games that ask for some lateral thinking (inspired by Family Feud, Only Connect, Chain Reaction and Catchphrase) and you're curious to see what emerges.

Cost:

🎨 Ticket: $45
This covers experience design and bespoke material costs.

and

🍜 Food share: approx $30/person (tax and tip included)
Paid at the restaurant; we’ll order family-style and split evenly.

How it works

You’ll receive a short, playful questionnaire around the last week of January. ✍️ Your answers to the 11 questions will inform my design of the visual displays, your seating arrangement, puzzle design.

This isn't a "What's your occupation, age" survey nor is it a "Tell me your biggest dreams or fears". The questions revolve around your curiosities and perspectives around scenarios.

To make sure everything is thoughtfully prepared, there’s a cutoff for full customization. This event has a participant cap at 26 people. 10 people max will be at each table.

Key dates

  • Jan 23 2026 - Questionnaire (11 questions) sent to registered guests.

  • Around 1.5 week to complete the questions

  • Feb 2 2026 - Registration deadline for full participation.

  • Feb 5 2026 - We feast, play, and map the room

Late sign-ups

You’re still welcome to purchase a ticket after Feb 2 if spots remain. Late registrants can fully participate in the dinner and activities, but may not be included in the prepared visual artefacts.

Refunds

I understand plans change! I offer refunds with at least 4 days notice before the event (Feb 1 11:59pm). After that point, tickets are non-refundable as materials are prepared and printed in advance.

What the night looks like

Note: Food and tea are shared throughout the night. The visual artefacts are also up the whole time to explore at your own pace.

6:30-7:00: 👋 Arrival, Meet Your Seat Partners
Settle in, get cozy, meet your seat partners (the person to the right and left of you). Explore a display of visual artefacts that represent the room's answers to the questions.

7:00: Feast begins!
We eat together, pass dishes, pour tea. To make ordering easier, I will start with ordering some of my own recommendations and welcome the group to top-up however they like.

7:45-8:30: 🧠 Meet Your Table and Room: Mini Puzzles
Creative games that invites curiosity and discovery for new patterns and overlaps amongst your whole table.

8:30-9:00: Closing tea
We regroup and toast the room.
