London Tech Week - FemCentric Design Hack
For decades, women have been excluded from the design process, causing the systems to fail before they've even been put to market.
From healthcare to transport, technology to urban planning, the “default user” has rarely been female. Caroline Criado Perez called this phenomenon the Invisible Woman: the hidden data gap that shapes the world around us.
Every startup is an attempt to reorganise reality and carries assumptions about how people should live.
Powered by Figma, the Femcentric Design Hack brings together AI engineers, UIUxers, designers, founders, and technologists for a one-day sprint to explore what happens when women are placed at the centre of that process in an AI-first world.
Ada Lovelace understood this before modern technology existed. She saw computation as relational and logical, as opposed to solely mechanical. She did so by stringing together the humanistic with the technical, such as imagination, language and human behaviour. That is, in many ways, what fem-centric design is about.
What happens when we build from that perspective?

About Lumina House
Lumina House is a global residency for women working across technology, research, engineering and the creative industries. When women are absent from the design process, entire systems inherit blind spots.
Lumina House exists as a response to that idea: creating spaces with rare talent density, with women who are actively building and developing the new infrastructures for the next wave of innovation.
