Abstract
To initiate our seminar series, Jakub will present a whirlwind tour of AI safety, explaining both near-term concerns about AI such as deepfakes, as well as more forward-looking ones like mass unemployment and even risks to the human species posed by superintelligent AI systems. He will cover the main areas of activity in AI Safety, ranging from purely technical research to policy and international governance of AI. Finally, he will introduce AI Safety Poland - a recently established community of enthusiasts whose goal is to make the transition to the AI-powered era go well. This introduction is intended for people who want to find out what AI Safety is, why they might care about it, and how they could get involved. It also serves as a starting point for later talks in the series.
