About Event

A free live session with Tom Hopcroft, a regular guy who turned his own loneliness into a community of thousands.

I moved to Spain nearly a decade ago...

I moved to Spain nearly a decade ago. I had a decent life here. Social enough. Not obviously lonely.

But something was always missing...

So, almost by accident, I started running events. Tiny ones at first. A table at a market. A few people in a bar. Then more. Then hundreds.

Three years later, I run one of Madrid's biggest communities. Over 400+ events hosted. Thousands of people who came alone and left with real connections.

I didn't build it to make money. I built it because I needed it, too.

And it turns out, so did lots of other people.

Since then, I've spoken to many people who have built their own successful communities, and they all have the same thing in common:

They build the thing they lack in their own lives.

Which made me realise something...

When you build your own community, something strange happens. You don't just fill the void that you were lacking. You get so much more.

⭐️ You attract exactly the kind of people you want around you, because you designed the space for them.

⭐️ You stop hoping you'll meet the right people, and start curating the room yourself.

⭐️ You become a recognised name in your city around the thing you actually care about.

⭐️ People come to you with opportunities you'd never have got otherwise.

⭐️ People start to know you as the person who runs that thing, the run club, the language exchange, the rooftop film nights, the dinner series.

And not only that...

And if you build it right, it pays.

Events cover their own costs first.

Then they can become a side project that starts to generate income.

Then if you want, you can turn it into a legitimate business, one you can grow on your own terms, around something you'd do anyway.

That's the life hack.

Building the community you needed is the move that solves the loneliness, gets you your people, makes you known in your city, and turns your passion into something that pays.

In this free live session, I'm going to talk about:

  • Why the friendship recession is real, and why the standard advice makes it worse

  • The structural reason it gets harder after 30, and why building beats joining

  • How running events make you a recognisable name in your city without needing a following

  • How to find your people by designing the room for them

  • How the same thing that builds your social life can become a real income stream

  • What your first event could look like, and how simple it actually is to run one

This is a free live session. No fluff. Just the honest version of how this works, from someone who built it from the ground up.

Come if that sounds up your street.
