Make Your Loved Clothes Last - Community Mending in the Park
Join us to stitch in community. And in protest against disposable fashion. We will repair our torn pockets and broken seams and spark conversations on making Loved Clothes Last so they don't go to landfill or are incinerated.
What shall I bring? Bring clothes to repair, needles, thread, scissors, scraps, and anything you'd like to share! We will have more on hand and experts to advise. All skill levels welcome. Refreshments will be served.
Why come? Be part of a global creative collective action resisting the cycle of excess through repair and reuse. Our event falls during DC Climate Week (April 20-26) and Fashion Revolution Week (22 to 28 April), making conscious fashion a collective mission.
Weather alert: If the weather is good, we'll be outdoors at Montgomery Park. If it is over 85 F degrees or raining, we'll send you updated location in Old Town.
Share on socials to encourage others to come!
Background: Did you know that on average at least 81% of clothing you donate, return, or dispose of goes to landfills or is incinerated? That on average each American throws away 80 lbs of textiles a year? And that a piece of clothing owned by an average American is worn only 7-10 times?
