Subnational Solutions for Methane Mitigation
Proven solutions already exist to reduce methane emissions across major emitting sectors, including energy, agriculture, and waste. The waste sector alone accounts for around 20% of global human-caused methane emissions, and solutions such as landfill diversion, composting, anaerobic digestion, and biogas production are already being implemented around the world.
Beyond reducing methane, these approaches can advance the circular economy, create jobs, improve resource efficiency, and generate long-term economic benefits. Yet many local governments still face significant barriers, including limited access to finance, technical capacity, infrastructure, and integrated planning.
Join us at the Asia Climate Solutions Pavilion for a conversation on turning proven solutions into action. This session will bring together subnational leaders and international organizations to showcase successful methane mitigation initiatives, explore enabling policies and investment mechanisms, and identify practical pathways to accelerate methane reductions from the waste sector by 2030.
