About Event

MiCA is now fully applicable with a hard transitional cutoff July 1st 2026, which means that any firm without a license must cease operations.

As of May 2026 there are only ~200 approvals vs ~1.200 applications in the EU/EEA.

Processing timelines vary widely from 4-9 months+. This means that firms may be forced to shut down while waiting, uncertainty arises and the road ahead is uncertain even for the actors who have received their license as MiCA does not come with four corners of full clarity. Neither for the private side nor the public.

Through this solutions-oriented Roundtable covered by Chatham House Rules we foster an open, honest and constructive dialogue among public and private parties on how to navigate both in the breach between July 1st and the period after.

Together with CASPs, Start-ups, DeFi players, Stablecoin issuers, Banks, Policy makers, Governments and other key stakeholders we take the pulse and debate on the current landscape of MiCA not only in the Nordics but all over Europe as we are also joined by several international stakeholders to get a thorough view.

Nordic Blockchain Association monitors all the Nordic MiCA licenses in the Nordics on a continuous matter and will present an update on the current status.

In addition, we will among others discuss and hear hands-on industry insights on the following topics:

  • July 1st: Deadline vs Reality?

  • Licensing Bottlenecks - Why are so many applications delayed?

  • Shared insights from companies forced to shut down

  • Harmonization vs Fragmentation - MiCA promised one license and one market. Reality is

    • Different enforcement standards

    • Different timelines

    • Different political attitudes

  • Passporting in practice

  • One-stop-shop at ESMA/EBA?

  • MiCA vs Global Competition.

    • EU vs UK vs US vs UAE etc.

  • MiCA vs Innovation

    • Will the real innovation happen outside 12nm in the DeFi space?

  • MiCA 2.0 - Will it happen and if so, what will it include?

  • The way forward

The Roundtable will be led by Magnus Jones together with other members of the Legal Steering Group of Nordic Blockchain Association.

Due to limited seating, participation is by confirmation only. We welcome all registrations of interest and will confirm selected attendees.
