Philanthropy 3.0 - Episode 2 (feat. UNICEF)
Join us on April 15th for the next live episode of the Philanthropy 3.0 podcast with a special guest Gerben Kijne from UNICEF’s Office of Innovation. This episode looks at exactly how Web3 financial tools are being deployed to solve real-world social impact problems.
We are focusing on a model of philanthropy that is essentially "giving without giving." Instead of giving away your principal, you retain your capital, and only the yield generated is donated to the cause.
We will examine how this model is currently utilized by UNICEF’s Venture Fund as well as by Giga, a joint initiative between UNICEF and the ITU with the goal of connecting the world’s schools to the internet. We will also break down how SFI acts as a sustainable financial vehicle to make this happen and UNICEF’s view on alternative models of philanthropy.
The Speakers
Guest: Gerben Kijne, Product Manager Frontier Tech at the UNICEF Global Office of Innovation
Co-Host: James Newell, Executive Director at GSR Foundation
Co-Host: Jaydeep Korde, CEO at Launchnodes

How UNICEF & Giga evaluate and implement SFI (and the yield-donation model) as a sustainable, long-term financing tool
A word on impact: what has been achieved so far, and what potential still remains
The link with impact. How is impact measured today and how can we do better in today’s world of ubiquitous information
The specific technical and regulatory steps required for Giga to accept and deploy DeFi yield across different global jurisdictions.
