Vistas: Beauty of the Desert is a solo photography exhibit by Melvin Morales, opening June 16, 2026 at the West Charleston Library Art Gallery and on view through September 1.
This event is the opening reception. Join Melvin for the first showing of the work, with time to walk the gallery, and meet the artist.
The work is a study of the Nevada landscape in its full range. Wide open basins, weather-carved canyons, mountain ranges rising at dusk, light moving across stone, the quiet pauses between storms. The exhibit moves past the cliché of desert as empty space and asks what it actually looks like to live inside this geography. The answer is layered. Color, scale, weather, stillness, and the long shadows of a place still being shaped.
Each piece was made over years of exploring Nevada on foot and by drive, returning to the same places to watch them shift with season, hour, and weather. Together the work is an invitation to slow down and notice what’s actually here.
If you can’t make the opening, the gallery is open to the public throughout the run. Visit anytime between June 16 and September 1 during the West Charleston Library’s regular hours.
