Seminar Series: When the Future Feels Uncertain in the Age of AI
Do you feel uncertain in the age of AI?
In this seminar, I will present the Deep Thrive framework I developed, which offers practical strategies for building greater clarity, adaptability, and agency.
About Me
I am Prof. Pilyoung Kim. I’m a developmental psychologist, neuroscientist, and Professor of Psychology at the University of Denver, where I also direct the Center for Brain, AI, and Child.
For more than 20 years, I’ve studied how we develop, experience emotions, build relationships, and maintain our well-being. Check out my papers on Google Scholar (h-index 46).
More recently, my work has expanded to an important new question: how is AI changing the way we think, relate to others, and live our lives?
I’ve also had the opportunity to contribute to AI safety and policy efforts involving OpenAI, Google, leading AI policy organizations, and a U.S. Congressional briefing.
Background
AI is changing how we work, live, and plan for the future. Some changes are exciting and open new possibilities. Others are difficult to anticipate or adapt to. It is therefore entirely normal to feel both excited and concerned.
Unpredictability can affect professionals at every career stage, from those entering a rapidly changing job market to experienced professionals reconsidering how their roles and expertise may evolve. Although we cannot predict every change ahead, we already possess many of the human strengths needed to respond well.
My goal in the Deep Thriving in the Age of AI seminar series is to provide a “how-to” guide to becoming more informed about how AI impacts our thoughts and actions, recognizing our own strengths, and taking practical steps to continue growing while gaining greater clarity, agency, and a stronger sense of direction.
Drawing on current scientific research and practical “how-to” exercises, this seminar will help participants better understand their responses to uncertainty, recognize the strengths and resources they already have, and develop new capacities for navigating change with greater clarity and agency.
This is central to deep thriving: continuing to learn, grow, and move forward with greater clarity, agency, and a stronger sense of direction across work and life.
In this session, we will explore research-informed ways to:
Distinguish what we can influence from what we cannot
Recognize our natural emotional and behavioral responses to uncertainty
Identify when a response provides short-term relief but may not support longer-term well-being
Develop flexible strategies for moving forward with greater clarity and agency
Approach change as a possible source of learning, creativity, and growth
We will apply practical “how-to” steps to a current area of uncertainty and unpredictability, understand our natural emotional and behavioral responses, and identify three practical strategies for moving forward with greater clarity and agency.
The goal is not to eliminate uncertainty. It is to build the inner resources and practical strategies that help us feel strong, remain adaptable, and stay open to growth.
Is this seminar for you?
This live seminar is for professionals who use AI or are increasingly affected by it, and who want to navigate changing roles and expectations with greater clarity, flexibility, and purpose.
No technical background is required. You are welcome to attend even if you did not join the earlier sessions.
