CDT Maker Club - Electronics & Repair Fundamentals
Part of the CDT Maker Club
Ever wondered what is actually happening inside the electronics you use every day?
Or wanted to understand how to diagnose a fault, solder a connection or repair something instead of throwing it away?
Electronics & Repair Fundamentals is a six-week hands-on introduction to electronics, practical repair and fault finding.
OPEN IT. UNDERSTAND IT. FIX IT.
Across six Monday evenings, you’ll build confidence working with basic electronic components, tools and circuits while developing practical skills that can be applied to future Maker Club projects.
No previous electronics experience is required.
WHAT WE’LL EXPLORE
Understanding basic electronic components
Circuits, voltage, current and resistance
Using common electronics tools safely
Introduction to soldering
Building and testing simple circuits
Basic fault finding and diagnostics
Taking apart and understanding electronic devices
Repair, reuse and the principles of circular making
Developing practical electronics projects
This is a learn-by-doing programme — expect to spend less time watching and more time making, testing and experimenting.

WHO IS IT FOR?
Students, staff and members of the wider community are welcome.
The programme is designed for beginners, so you do not need previous electronics, engineering or repair experience.
Whether you're interested in making, technology, sustainability, engineering or simply want to understand how things work, this is a space to learn through practical experimentation.
FROM SKILLS TO PROJECTS
The aim isn't just to teach individual techniques.
As part of CDT Maker Club, participants will have opportunities to use these skills within wider projects, collaborative builds, demonstrations and major events and showcases throughout the year.
About the CDT Maker Club
The CDT Maker Club hosts programme of practical workshops, talks, demonstrations and creative sessions led by members of the UEL and wider Maker Club community.
It offers a welcoming space to learn new skills, test ideas, make practical projects and share knowledge across technology, design, engineering and creative practice.
