Disrupt the Comfort – Free Writing Through Rage

Something is deeply off in our society. Many people sense this imbalance and experience intense emotions as a result. One of the most powerful of these emotions is anger—a feeling that can have immense transformative power when channeled into creative action.

When it comes to writing, intense anger can be paralysing, especially for writers who feel pressure to contribute to social change and liberation by producing “meaningful” work. Rage, in particular, can block the creative process instead of fuelling it, especially when combined with fear of being judged or disappointing others. At the same time, anger can also be one of the most productive emotions, as anger or aggression is often described as the psychological opposite of depression.

This four-session generative writing class combines body-based practices with free writing to help participants move through paralysis caused by intense emotions such as anger. By the end of the session, participants will have created several pieces of writing that can serve as first drafts for further creative work. Even if the texts produced do not become the foundation for future projects, the experience of filling pages after months of creative blockage can be deeply therapeutic, particularly because of the sense of self-efficacy it fosters.

NOTE: This is a four-session class taking place across Thursdays in June (1800 CET / 1200 EST). You will be invited to all four sessions upon booking.
