Built Different: Your Unfair Advantage Is Already In The Room - FSO Speaker Series
About
At Figuring Shit Out, we put on events for Founders who don't normally go to events. We didn't believe Singapore needed another panel, fireside chat or Q&A so we did the radical step of asking speakers think ahead of time about what they wanted to say. Beyond palatable food & hopefully more than palatable networking, why schlep across town to sit in a cramped room for an hour: Perspective!
All our speakers come from fascinating career backgrounds that caused them to look at the world and think about problems in uniquely insightful ways. Each of our talks provides a unique lens on the problems facing startups that Founders can absorb to provide a new toolkit of insights for their own founder journey.
Topic
Most founders know they have something others don't. A background, a network, a way of seeing problems that nobody around them quite replicates. But too often, that edge gets buried under best practices, investor expectations, and the quiet fear that what makes you different might also make you unacceptable.
This session is about naming that edge. And then actually using it.
Swati Rai has spent her career walking into rooms with different rules: from Google to GroupM to Meta to Alibaba to a SaaS startup and then starting Growthful herself, all while learning to make the unconventional case before she had the credentials to back it. She's taken that same instinct into her work coaching founders around the world over the last 4 years, helping them find the specific, defensible advantage that nobody else in their category can replicate.
In this session, she'll share:
Why your unfair advantage is almost never what you put in your pitch deck
The three question framework she uses to make unconventional bets
What happens when you run those questions on real startup problems : including the ones where the answer might be uncomfortable
How she used her unfair advantage throughout her career at Big Tech and then building an extremely profitable business at Growthful over the last 4 years
How she is using an AI coaching persona to challenge her while she pivots Growthful Pivot into an AI Automation Company
About the Speaker
Swati Rai is the founder of Growthful. She likes to call herself a reformed FAANG Operator who's now enjoying building for the backbone of the world economy - small businesses and startups. She spent fifteen years in PMM and PM roles across Google, Meta, and Alibaba including leading Ads Monetization at Lazada from zero to over $100M. Over the last four years she has taken that experience into the startup world — working with 25+ founders across Asia, Europe and Africa as embedded product leader and coach to the founding team, helping them find their right to win, build the systems to get there and navigate challenges when growth stalls. She is now betting on her own PM and customer obsession skills again to build AI tools and workflows for small businesses, because her motto is: why scale headcount when you can scale workflows.
