​ARIA 소개

​Advanced Research and Invention Agency(ARIA)​는 영국의 고위험·고성과 연구개발(R&D) 지원 기관입니다.

​기존의 연구 지원 방식으로는 추진하기 어려운 대담하고 실험적이며 학제적인 연구를 지원함으로써 과학기술 분야의 새로운 돌파구를 만들어가는 것을 목표로 합니다.

​ARIA는 전통적인 위원회 중심의 심사 방식 대신 Programme Director 제도를 운영합니다. Programme Director는 아직 충분히 주목받지 못한 연구 기회를 발굴하고, 대담한 기술 비전을 제시하며, 이를 실현할 연구자와 프로젝트를 연결하는 역할을 담당합니다.

​ARIA는 학계뿐 아니라 스타트업을 포함한 다양한 연구 주체를 대상으로 고위험 R&D를 지원합니다.

​특히 2026년 8월에는 Nature-inspired Computation 분야의 새로운 연구 지원 기회가 열릴 예정이며, 가을에도 다양한 분야의 추가 지원 프로그램이 예정되어 있습니다.

​이번 서울 방문을 통해 ARIA는 한국의 연구자와 스타트업이 ARIA의 연구 지원 프로그램에 참여할 수 있는 방법, 그리고 ​영국 연구기관 및 연구실과 새로운 국제 공동연구 기회를 만들어갈 수 있는 방법도 소개할 예정입니다.

​또한 ARIA는 2026년 8월 제3기 Programme Director 모집을 시작하며, 선발자는 2027년 5월부터 활동할 예정​입니다.

​앤틀러코리아는 2026년 8월부터 Antler Forge 두 번째 코호트 참여 팀의 지원을 받고 있으며, 10월 중 Residency를 시작할 예정​입니다.

​Seoul Funding at the Frontier

​We are bringing together Seoul’s scientists, AI engineers, deep-tech founders, and technical experts who are exploring new frontiers in science and technology.

​The UK’s Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA) is coming to Seoul to connect Korea’s world-class scientific and technical talent with high-risk, high-reward research funding.

​Hosted together with Antler Korea, this event will explore how ambitious scientific research gets funded and developed, and how exceptional technical leaders can shape and lead entirely new research directions.

​The evening will begin with an introduction to ARIA, including its Programme Director model and upcoming funding opportunities, followed by lightning talks from researchers and founders tackling ambitious scientific and technical challenges in Seoul. We will then continue the conversation over food, drinks, and networking.

​What is ARIA?

​The Advanced Research and Invention Agency (ARIA) is the UK’s high-risk, high-reward R&D funding agency.

​ARIA aims to unlock scientific and technological breakthroughs by supporting bold, experimental, and interdisciplinary research that can be difficult to pursue through conventional research funding models.

​Rather than relying primarily on traditional committee-led funding structures, ARIA operates through Programme Directors. Programme Directors identify overlooked research opportunities, define ambitious technical visions, and bring together the researchers and projects needed to pursue them.

​ARIA supports high-risk R&D across a range of organisations, including both academic researchers and startups.

​In particular, a new funding opportunity in Nature-inspired Computation is expected to open in August 2026, with additional opportunities across other fields expected to open in the autumn.

​During this visit to Seoul, ARIA will also share how researchers and startups in South Korea can engage with and apply for ARIA funding opportunities, as well as how ARIA can help facilitate new international research collaborations with UK laboratories and research institutions.

​ARIA will also begin recruiting its third cohort of Programme Directors in August 2026, with successful candidates expected to begin in May 2027.

​What is Antler Korea?

​Antler is a global venture capital firm backing exceptional founders to go Further, Faster.

​Operating across more than 30 cities worldwide, Antler has invested in more than 1,800 startups globally. PitchBook ranked Antler as the world’s most active early-stage investor in both 2024 and 2025.

• ​Inception Residency: A programme designed to help founders form founding teams and validate new ventures. Across eight cohorts, approximately 15,000 people have applied, around 3% have been selected to participate, and Antler Korea has invested in 85 companies following its investment process.

• ​Forge Residency: A programme focused on customer validation, enterprise partnerships, and global expansion. The first cohort launched in March 2026, attracting 100 teams from 35 countries, with two companies ultimately receiving investment.

• ​Fast-track Investment: A direct investment pathway for startups with an established team, product, and early traction.

​Antler Korea supports founders throughout the company-building journey, from co-founder and key talent matching to business model validation, early-stage investment, enterprise and global network connections, and follow-on fundraising.

​Antler Korea is accepting applications for the second Antler Forge cohort from August 2026, with the Residency expected to begin in October.
