Opera singers train for years to produce sound in a way no other vocalist does. The result is a voice that can fill a hall without amplification, carry over an orchestra, and convey emotion through pure acoustic power. This talk examines what sets opera apart as a vocal and dramatic form, and why the human voice, when trained this way, sounds like nothing else.

Corey Trahan is Director of TCU Opera Studio and chair of music at Texas Christian University, where he directs fully staged operatic productions. He performs as a professional tenor with Fort Worth Opera.
