The title names the problem: we cool our buildings by brute force, burning energy to push heat out, while steady thermal energy sits beneath our feet. Dr. John Holbrook walks through what geothermal systems actually are, how water moving through subsurface rock can harvest heat from sedimentary basins, and why Texas sits on conditions that make ground-source energy viable now. The talk covers the mechanics of heat flow below grade and what it would take to tap it at scale.
