The Odyssey Is Not About Getting Home
The Hang Theory. A lecture series by Hang Dallas.
One speaker. One big idea. One good room.
Where · Times Ten Cellars.
The Odyssey has been read for nearly three thousand years, and every generation finds something different in it. This talk asks what the poem actually says about homecoming, veterans, hospitality, and identity, and why modern translations have changed the way we read it. Dr. David Sweet, Chair of Classics and Professor at the University of Dallas, walks through the text and its afterlives, tracing how the story has been retold and why it resonates now.
