Why Is Sandton So Hard to Walk?
Sandton has the Gautrain, major commercial developments and new public transport investment, yet moving through the area on foot can still be difficult. Wide roads, vehicle entrances, inactive edges and crossings designed around cars can make even short trips uncomfortable.
Why Is Sandton So Hard to Walk? brings together voices from urban design, transport, development, precinct management and the City to ask what needs to change.
Rosebank provides an unusual comparison. The discussion will look at first and last-mile connections, Rea Vaya Phase 1C, cycling, Complete Streets, development and the role of the public realm.
After the discussion, the group will walk through Oxford Parks with Intaprop to look at how pedestrian routes, active edges and public space have been approached on the ground.
