​Underwater Photography for Freedivers

​Combine your passion for freediving with the art of underwater photography.

​This workshop is designed for certified freedivers who want to feel confident using a camera underwater and learn how to create stronger, more intentional images while diving on a single breath.

​You’ll explore different underwater camera systems from the simplest option using your smartphone to more advanced mirrorless setups, while learning how light, movement, depth, color and your own position in the water influence the final image.

​The day is highly practical. Through guided exercises and creative challenges, you’ll gradually become more comfortable diving with a camera, learn how to photograph other freedivers, and take turns creating images of each other.

​The goal: by the end of the workshop, using a camera underwater should feel less like an extra task and more like part of your dive, giving you the confidence and creative freedom to observe, experiment and tell stories beneath the surface.

• ​Shallow-water session to get comfortable with different cameras and techniques

• ​Open-water session to apply what you've learned at depth

​What you'll learn

• ​How to compose stronger underwater images, from freediver portraits to objects and wider underwater scenes

• ​How light, depth and color change underwater and how to use them creatively

• ​How to adapt your approach to different camera systems

• ​How to position yourself and your subject for better images

• ​Body positioning and buoyancy for more stable framing

• ​How to move efficiently underwater while carrying a camera

• ​How to stay calm and comfortable so you can focus on creativity instead of the equipment

​Equipment

​You'll have the opportunity to try different underwater photography systems, progressing from simple to more advanced setups:

• ​Smartphone + Divevolk underwater housing

• ​GoPro / DJI

• ​Olympus TG-7

• ​Sony A7 III

• ​Sony A7 IV

​You are also welcome to bring your own camera or underwater housing.

​Freediving equipment, wetsuit, fins, mask and snorkel, is available to rent, or you can bring your own.

​Prerequisites

​Participants must have completed a beginner freediving course and be comfortable practicing basic freediving skills in open water.
