About the Keynote Speaker: Dr. Werner Vogels, CTO, Amazon.com
As one of the forces behind Amazon's approach to cloud computing, Werner is passionate about helping young businesses reach global scale and transforming enterprises into fast-moving digital organizations. Werner joined Amazon in 2004 from Cornell University, where he was a distributed systems researcher. He’s also held technology leadership positions in companies that handle the transition of academic technology into industry. Werner holds a PhD from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam and has authored many articles on distributed systems technologies for enterprise computing. On his blog, All Things Distributed, Werner shares thought leadership content on a range of topics, including his annual technology predictions.
About the Keynote Speaker: Peter DeSantis, SVP, Utility Computing, AWS
Peter owns worldwide engineering, operations, and product management for AWS Services and AWS Custom Silicon. He joined AWS in March 2006 as the General Manager of Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), where he led the EC2 team through the 2006 initial launch of the service. He then went on to lead a number of AWS products focused on compute and networking. In 2016, Peter was named VP, AWS Global Infrastructure, and in 2018 he expanded his role to include AWS Customer Support. He later held the role of SVP of AWS Global Infrastructure and Customer Support. Peter earned a Bachelor of Arts with a dual major in Economics and Computer Science from Dartmouth College.
About our Live Q&A Speaker: Guillaume Banville
Guillaume Banville is a seasoned infrastructure leader currently serving as Senior Security Program Manager for the Data Centre Security team at Amazon Data Services Canada Inc. With nearly a decade at Amazon since 2016, Guillaume has been instrumental in AWS’s expansion into Canada, including building and launching the first Canada region in 2016 (Canada Central).
As Data Centre Operations Leader for the Canada West Region in Alberta from 2021-2023, he planned and executed the infrastructure strategy for the second, 3-Availability Zone region, managing a $15M+ operational budget while building five data centres and recruiting a team of talented Engineering, IT, Security and Logistics professionals. Throughout his Amazon career, he has progressed through key leadership roles including Regional Security Manager, Senior Infrastructure Delivery & Country Manager, and his current role overseeing complex security initiatives and supporting 500+ employees across the Americas.
Guillaume holds an MBA with international management focus. Based in Calgary, his unique combination of strategic business leadership and hands-on AWS infrastructure experience brings deep expertise in data center security operations, infrastructure management, and cloud operations.
