About Event

AI is moving fast; recent incidents like the Hugging Face one have made safety feel a lot more real, and the field needs people from many backgrounds. We believe students and individuals from Austin could contribute a lot! No technical background needed: whether you’re into CS, policy, bio, or philosophy, there’s a place for you in AI safety.

5 pm - 6 pm:

Panel Featuring:

  • Scott Aaronson: Professor of CS at UT Austin, previously worked on AI safety at OpenAI

  • Sunishchal Dev: An early MATS mentee, has helped scale AI Safety incubator organizations and is now an AI Biosecurity Evaluator at RAND.

  • Jack Kelly: Chief of Staff at The Midas Project, a nonprofit watchdog that monitors leading AI developers' policies and actions to identify and report where they are falling short

  • Chris Canal: Previously an ML Engineer at Amazon, Chris now leads Equistamp, a leading AI Safety contracting company.

6 pm -7 pm:
